At least 146 Palestinians were murdered by Israeli airstrikes in Gaza in the last 24 hours, marking a dramatic increase in the level of violence. Leaders from throughout the world have voiced serious worries about the increasing violence. Volker Türk, the UN Human Rights Chief, denounced the recent bombings and said they might be part of a plan to forcibly relocate Palestinians, which he likened to ethnic cleansing. These views were mirrored by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who in his speech at the Arab League conference in Baghdad called for an urgent and durable ceasefire.

According to reports, Israel is using its military might to put pressure on Hamas to free the hostages that were abducted during the October 2023 attacks. Ceasefire talks are still stuck in spite of these attempts. Hamas has, however, indicated that it will be attending fresh negotiations in Doha, Qatar, suggesting that a diplomatic solution may be possible.

Due to a lack of supplies and frequent Israeli attacks on hospitals and medical facilities, Gaza has limited access to healthcare. In an address to the UN Security Council on Tuesday, UN assistance chief Tom Fletcher called for a restart of aid to Gaza, claiming that hunger was imminent.
