"Jeep Cherokee makes a comeback as a hybrid SUV with a bold, boxy new design."

After being out of service since 2023, Jeep plans to bring the Cherokee SUV back in late 2025. In keeping with the brand's shift toward electric power, the next model will have an intense, boxy style symbolic of previous models and be offered with hybrid powertrains.

A Bold Return with Hybrid Power

Stellantis' STLA Large platform will be used to build the 2025 Jeep Cherokee, allowing a range of powertrain options. The Cherokee will first be available in gasoline and hybrid versions, with an entirely electric model expected in the future.

It is expected that the hybrid version would include a 1.6-liter supercharged engine and a new three-speed transmission that is compatible with hybrid vehicles. The goal of this arrangement is to increase fuel efficiency without compromising the Cherokee's well-known off-road capabilities.

Design: A Nod to the Past

The new Cherokee will sport a boxy profile, a sitting position, and the iconic seven-slot grille, all of which are features of a more traditional Jeep design. This design change appeals to fans of classic Jeep styling because it departs from the rounded contours of the previous generation.

Positioning in the Jeep Lineup

The resurrected Cherokee will be positioned between the larger Grand Cherokee and the smaller Compass, catering to buyers looking for a midsize SUV that combines off-road capability with urban usefulness. This location offers Jeep's unique rough appeal while putting it in direct rivalry with vehicles like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4.

Production and Availability

The redesigned Cherokee is anticipated to go into production in late 2025 and be available soon after. In addition to producing the Jeep Wagoneer S and Recon versions, Stellantis' Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico will also construct the vehicle.

Looking Ahead

Jeep's decision to bring back the Cherokee with hybrid technology and a timeless style underscores the company's approach to fusing innovation and tradition. The return of the Cherokee gives consumers a recognized name that is ready for current standards as the automobile industry moves toward electrification.
