Israel Attacks Iran: Massive Airstrikes Target Nuclear Facilities
and Military Leaders Amid Rising Tensions
Targeting
important nuclear installations and senior military figures, Israel has started
an extensive and unprecedented military attack on Iran. The attack, known as
Operation Rising Lion, was confirmed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who
also stated that the strikes will last for several days. The Israel
Defense Forces (IDF) said they dropped more than 330 precise munitions across
the nation and used 200 fighter jets to strike more than 100 important targets.
Key Iranian Military Leaders Killed
General Hossein Salami, the head of
Iran's Revolutionary Guard, and Major General Mohammad Bagheri, the country's
top military officer, were among those slain. The Supreme
Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has both of them as close advisors
and powerful members of Iran's military establishment. Their passing is a
serious setback for Iran's military leadership and command continuity.
Nuclear Infrastructure Targeted
According to Netanyahu, the attack targeted key nuclear
experts, missile sites, and Iran's main nuclear power complex in Natanz.
Iranian media confirmed the deaths of six scientists. The attacks are expected
to have a major effect on Iran's nuclear capabilities, even if the
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) did not record a rise in radiation
levels.
Iran Retaliates with Drone Attacks
The
IDF declared a state of emergency after Iran fired more than 100 drones in Israel's
direction. Many of the inbound threats were intercepted by Israeli air
defenses. Mass gatherings were prohibited, public schools were closed, and
residents were advised to remain at home. As a precaution, most of the Middle
East's airspace has been restricted.
Trump Issues Stern Warning
On
Truth Social, former US President Donald Trump issued a warning to Iran,
stressing that the nation needs to resume nuclear talks "before there is
nothing left" and raising the possibility of even more catastrophic
Israeli strikes in the future. The past 24 hours have raised doubts about any
quick diplomatic conclusion to the ongoing negotiations between the United
States and Iran over a possible nuclear agreement.
Follow-Up Strikes and Escalation Risk
Israeli
attacks on Tabriz, a city in northwest Iran, started Friday morning, based to
new claims from Iranian state media. The region was shaken by explosions,
and Tabriz Airport was said to be heavily targeted.
The Bigger Picture
Israeli
strategy has drastically changed as a result of the attack. Although Netanyahu
has long opposed Iran's nuclear aspirations, his prior initiatives were largely
clandestine. A new age of direct conflict is heralded by this week's overt and
extensive military action.
Regional stability is at risk since the nuclear negotiations between the United
States and Iran are likely to go awry. Netanyahu's move comes with hints of
weakness in Iran and its partners in the region, as well as a shift in
worldwide focus away from the long-standing Israeli-Iranian dispute.
With consequences that could alter the global landscape, the conflict in the
Middle East has a chance to escalate into a generational battle as the world
watches.
