Celebrations Turn Violent Despite Heavy Security

Authorities said that 294 people had been arrested worldwide by early Sunday morning, including 30 people who broke into a shoe store on the Champs-Élysées. Tension rose when two cars were set on fire close to the Prince's Park stadium.

A throng trying to break through barriers and confront police officers was stopped by riot police using water cannons at the top of the Champs-Élysées, close to the Arc de Triomphe.

Scenes of Joy at Bastille Amid Isolated Violence

Not every area of the city was ravaged by violence. At the famous Place de la Bastille, followers gathered in a happy mood, dancing, chanting, lighting flares, and climbing the base of the historic monument. Motorcyclists joined in, circling the gathering and screaming their motors while the audience cheered.

With the skirmishes in other parts of the city, the atmosphere at the Bastille remained fairly calm and cheerful by 1 a.m.

PSG to Celebrate with Parade on Champs-Élysées

PSG will return to a hero's welcome on Sunday with a grand victory parade on the Champs-Élysées, notwithstanding the incidents. After years of sorrows and near misses, the team finally won the prized Champions League trophy with the victory, making it a historic moment.
