Washington Father Wanted for Murder After Three Young Daughters
Found Dead
Travis
Decker, 32, is the target of a vigorous manhunt by Washington state authorities
after he is suspected of killing his three children, Olivia (5), Evelyn (8),
and Paityn (9), during a planned visitation. After Decker failed to deliver the
girls to their mother, Whitney Decker, as agreed, they were reported missing on
May 30. Sadly, their deaths were found on June 2 in Chelan County, adjacent to
Decker's abandoned 2017 GMC Sierra pickup truck, near Rock Island Campground.
Investigation Details
The girls were
reportedly confined and most likely asphyxiated to death, according to evidence
found at the scene. Decker's wallet, a blanket, the kids' car seats, and bloody
handprints were discovered in his truck. Authorities have warned the public not
to approach Decker, a former Army soldier with substantial training, since they
feel he poses a serious threat.
Background and Custody Arrangements
Travis
Decker was allowed scheduled visits, but Whitney Decker was granted sole
custody of the kids. Decker's mental health and financial instability had been
questioned, even though there had been no previous incidents during these
trips. He was allegedly facing a disciplinary discharge from the Washington
National Guard, was homeless, and was living out of his car.
Public Response and Ongoing Search
The
decision not to issue an Amber Alert at first, which authorities later
clarified did not fulfill the requirements at the time, has garnered a lot of
attention and criticism in this case. A $20,000 reward has been offered for
information that leads to Decker's arrest, and government agencies such as the
FBI and the United States Marshals are assisting with the hunt for food.
Lincoln Primary School, the girls' school, provided counseling services to help
staff and kids through this trying time.
It is urged that anyone with knowledge of Travis Decker's position call
911 right away.
