Thousands Experience Outage as Social Media Platform X Goes Down Across the U.S.

Early morning disruptions leave users unable to access X, formerly known as Twitter

Tens of thousands of users in the US were unable to access the website or app due to a massive outage that occurred early Saturday on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. Around 8 a.m. ET, the platform started to have problems, according to real-time tracking firm DownDetector.com.

Over 25,000 U.S. Users Report Access Issues

By 8:26 a.m., Down Detector had received over 25,000 reports from American users who were having issues with the desktop website, server connectivity, and mobile app. Some users said that they couldn't log in at all, while others reported that they couldn't submit posts or load their timelines.

Global Outage Affects the UK and Other Regions

The U.S. wasn't the only country affected. Significant problems were also reported by users in the UK, where more than 11,000 disruptions were recorded. Similar connectivity issues were also seen by hundreds of customers in other foreign markets, suggesting a worldwide service interruption.

Ongoing Technical Problems Persist from Earlier This Week

Recently, X users have encountered technical issues on various other occasions. Users experienced issues on Thursday as well, according to Down Detector, which raises the possibility that the site is experiencing persistent performance difficulties. According to X's developer platform, login systems started to exhibit "downgraded performance" on Friday. As of Saturday, the problem has not been fixed.

No Official Statement Yet from X

Regarding the extensive outage, X did not offer an official explanation or update as of the time of reporting. According to reports, Elon Musk's network has 250 million daily active users worldwide, so any outage would be extremely disruptive.

Ownership Shift to Musk’s AI Startup Raises Questions

This period of inactivity occurs soon after a big ownership shift. Elon Musk disclosed in March 2024 that he had given xAI, his business devoted to artificial intelligence, ownership of X. Concerns have been raised by the transition regarding the platform's ongoing leadership, especially in regard to user experience and reliability.

Looking Ahead: Will Stability Improve Under xAI?

Users are becoming more and more frustrated due to login problems, regular outages, and the company's lack of public data. It's unclear if the shift to xAI leadership will result in greater technological stability or more upheaval.
